Welcome to The Lowdown for Week 17. This is my little corner of the fantasy football universe — feel free to pull up a chair and stay a while!

Bow Down
Like this week’s featured image (above)? You should; it’s my regal portrait, created by one of our graphic arts nerds. It was commissioned in honor of my incredible championship run in the first and oldest fantasy football experts league– FanEx. Yup, yours truly went up against 11 other fantasy football experts, won the Trophy (despite having the league’s highest PA total) and posted the highest point total. Without a doubt, a historically great performance rivaling the Miami Dolphins’ Perfect Season of 1973. Without exaggeration, the greatest single-season performance ever seen in the industry. It’ll never be duplicated.

Aaaaaaannnnnnddddd….. CUT! Nice take, Nerd John!

Whew! I’m glad to be done with that hype commercial. I’ve never been any good at self-promotion, which explains why I’m not on ESPN congratulating myself for having the incredible insight to take Alvin Kamara in the first round.

Truth is I won the FanEx title this year after an incredibly tight season and playoff run. I got into the playoffs via a tie-breaker with three other teams (highest point total), then won my two playoff contests by a combined 1.95 points. After squeaking by Yahoo!’s Scott Pianowski in the first round, I had to go up against Fantasy Sharks’ Chris Dolfi’s squad, featuring Alvin Kamara’s record-setting six-TD performance. Honestly, I had to leverage the Nerds’ Consistency Rankings and Weekly Fantasy Forecast to identify high risk/high reward players in order to try and overcome Dolfi’s huge lead. This strategy led me to start guys like Jeff Wilson Jr, CeeDee Lamb and Jamison Crowder (all of whom performed above their season averages) and allowed me to get a 178.85-178.10 win after Josh Allen’s outstanding performance on Monday Night Football.

Happy New Year!
Thanks once again to all our readers and subscribers who joined us for the inaugural season of Nerd Fantasy Sports. Along with the rest of the Nerds, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year! The Lowdown will be back for the 2021 NFL regular season… see you then!
