NOTES: This matchup is a game of an old coaching regime against a new one, as Carolina’s previous regime now heads the Washington Football Team and is looking to lock up the NFC East with a win this week. As of right now it looks like Dwayne Haskins will be starting at QB this week, although that goes against Head Coach Ron Rivera’s mantra of disciplining irresponsible behavior, as Haskins was seen maskless in a club. Anyways, he gives them the best chance to win this game and that is what Rivera is focused on. He is also hoping that stud rookie RB Antonio Gibson returns to action against an awful Panthers run defense that just conceded 145 yards to Aaron Jones. Washington will surely try to make Haskins a game manager and run the ball down Carolina’s throat while setting the tempo with their all-pro defensive line. I expect that gameplan to workout, as Washington’s front seven has been elite lately.
The Panthers on the other hand are looking ahead to the 2021 season, but this season definitely had some positives for a franchise looking towards the future. They created a great foundation on defense and solidified their WR core, as they hope for star RB Christian McCaffery to return next year. For now, they will focus on this matchup against Washington where they will try to take down their former Head Coach. The formula is ball security as this Washington defense forces a lot of turnovers, but the Panthers aren’t great at protecting the ball. The Panthers defense will create mayhem and give their offense a chance to win the game.
